The redevelopment of Oman’s largest airport will result in one of the world’s most ultra-modern airports. The project comprises some 70 buildings apart from the terminal, including a control tower, an air traffic management centre, and a cargo terminal capable of handling 200,000 tons of freight annually. The 290,000m 2 passenger terminal building, a grandiose structure incorporating a blend of modern international class airport design elements and Omani traditional motifs, stands between two parallel runways (one new, one existing) and has parking capacity for 6,000 cars. Consisting of departures, arrivals, transfers and duty free shopping arcades, restaurants, cafes and elegant lounges, it will boast 24-28 boarding air bridges, all of which are capable of handling new and existing code C-F aircraft.
